I used this to cover up the top of a cheap old desk that had a lot of damage, but wasn't really worth the effort of refinishing. The "leather" texture is great because it helps distract from the uneven surface under the contact paper.

Unusual application (I think)
I needed for a floor-tom, a leatherette wrap to re-wrap and match a vintage Maxwin/Pearl trap set/kit I've been rebuilding. This was an excellent match for the set. Since other snare drums are painted black (for the reason to tone down 'ring' from the metal body)I decided to also cover another snare drum with this leatherette wrap. It worked as intended; looks nice and dampens any ring from the metal body. My only reason for not giving the contact paper 5 stars is that I was hoping it might
